Since 1993, student guides have been securing the way to school in Geising for their classmates. The student pilot project has existed in Germany for 70 years.

The then school principal, Mr. Novell, Mr. Binnewerg from the local traffic police and our former teacher, Mr. Walther, created the project in 1992 and then accompanied children and young people on their way to becoming student pilots in 1993. We can proudly say that there were no accidents on the way to school during this time. The state competitions for student pilots took place every year. Our school often provided the winner from Saxony, who then took part in the national competition, which always took place in a different federal state. We have already been able to bring national victory to our school four times.

And how do you actually become a student guide? After eight hours of training by the police, passing the exam and getting outfitted, you will be accepted into the team for this project.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary, a thank you event took place at Geising High School in May 2023, to which all former supporters were invited. We would like to thank them, as well as the teacher Ms. Junker, who continues to be in charge, and all of the students for their great commitment and the work they have done over the decades.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the student pilots at our school, the current students in charge were able to get a taste of the work of the THW in Reinholdshain.

And what does the student pilot project have to do with THW Dippoldiswalde?

Lars Werthmann, local representative of THW Dippoldiswalde, competed for our school in the national student pilot competition in 2000 and took first place. On September 12, 2023, the state traffic police invited him and Ms. Andrea Dombois, from the CDU, and the mayor of the city of Dippoldiswalde, Kerstin Körner, to the Industriering in Reinholdshain. In addition to a certificate and medal, the young people received an insight into the technical relief organization's premises and technology. In addition, the state and traffic police, represented by Ms. Kati Walther and Mr. Binnewerk, gave the girls and boys a real-life insight into their work with a number of tests. With the help of VR glasses, they got an insight into what intoxication and drug states feel like, used a simulator to test how they react to fog and black ice in a car or motorcycle and were able to use the opportunity to answer questions on the driving license test place.

We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and good cooperation!
